Michelle Brand in Eco Art Directory 2003

Michelle Brand
I consider myself to be an environmental artist because, I respond to current environmental problems and I use my design skills to try and solve/highlight these problems; my main focus is on consumer waste. I design and make lights from plastic drink bottles found on our cities streets. I give them a second use and at the same times shift peoples’ perception on reuse. I am also passing comment on current manufacturing practices which could become more sustainable …to me each empty plastic bottle has a second value and offers opportunity.

Background
Michelle is an eco designer and photographer with a BSc in Product Design and Development, as well as an MA in Bioclimatic Design (investigating waste management and material recovery through design in future apartment blocks).

Work
Michelle will attend environmental fairs, presenting talks on the perception of reuse. She will also work to commission and exhibit her designs.
